An idea:

The speed at which a rover moves across a planet/moon surface is limited by the time it takes to send new instructions to it to maneuver around any obstacles it may encounter. Why not send a drone "scout" ahead to anticipate the obstacle and get evasive maneuvers to the rover in time to deal with it without a delay?
