Around the millenium, my wife and I read the Old Testament as we toured the Holy Land. We were horrified by some of the stories. The worst was about avenging a rape by requiring that the rapist's tribesmen all be circumcised -- and then, as they healed, descending upon them and slaughtering them all and taking their women into slavery.
