Few minutes?!?!? (Reacting to the title only.)

Just the shock waves of the impact would would taken roughly an hour and a half to reach the furthest side of the world. The disruption at the antipode would be the magnitude of a moderate earthquake -- and considerable less elsewhere. The tsunami(s) would arrive many hours later. So for many of the creatures on high ground, the day would proceed as normal after minor earthquake. Those in deep water would be largely unaffected by the tsunami waves travelling overhead.

[Now if I could only read the article without having to pay ...]
