When I Japan, I saw a childrens' book that linked eating pork with smelly farts. At first I thought, "How silly!" But sure enough a couple of days after eating pork, I noticed that my farts were smelly. The Japanese are hypersenstive about odors (viz. their elaborate toilet seats) and thus many avoid pork. Whenever there is a option other than pork now, I, too, avoid it.
