I figure 7. I prefer starting with the center square. When it's involve there are only 2 possibilities: corner or edge square. If an edge square is involved there are 4 possibilities: near corner, edge, far corner and opposite edge. Finally, if a corner is involve the only options left are a near corner and the opposite corner.
