Lead is indeed toxic, and it would be interesting to know how lead bullets , etc., enter the ecosystem. And how it is taken up by humans. Perhaps it, too, represents a lingering hazard of war.
The dose a person gets is a factor of both the level in the environment and the period of exposure. The elevated cancer level in the Balkans, descibed in the article I cited (did your read it) are most likely due to long term exposure to U remnants.
