My approach is to draw lines from the center of the big triangle to the points on its sides, dividing the big triangle into identical thirds. FOcusing on one of those thirds: the unpainted portion consists of two similar, smaller right triangles. The mid-sized triangle consist of four of those same small triangle. Ergo: 2:1.
