The lack of self-awarebess in the article and the comments is depressing. We are supplying Ukraine with air-defense systems; Russia (Soviet Union) supplied North Vietnam with air-defense systems. The US was trying to hive off territory from Vietnam (we supported cancelling the unification referendum); Russia is trying to hive off the southeast of Ukraine (they sponsor phoney referenda on annexation).

One could further compare the motivation for military involvement. Was the USSR using Vietnam in a proxy war to weaken the USA? To a degree. Is the USA using Ukraine in a proxy war to weaken RF? In part.

North Vietnam had MIGs, and eventually won. Ukraine will soon have F16 and will eventually win.

America was humiliated in Vietnam due to it utter failure to respect the national determination of the Vietnamese. Russia will suffer the same fate in Ukraine.
