The truth is bound to be more interesting, but I will throw this idea out:

Maybe the anti-tail is the exhaust being thrust out of an engine trying to slow down its descent into the Solar System. Is there any sign of 3I/Atlas not accelerating as quickly as would be expected if gravity were the only force acting on it as it approaches the Sun?
