To my knowledge, in the length and bredth of human geographic spread and diversity, there has never been a significant concentration of toe-less people. If that is that case now, it is likely that it will remain the case in the future.

Our toes may be somewhat shorter than our prehistoric ancestors, but my hunch is that the shortening is becoming assymtotic.

Evolution works upon what works well enough, not abstract notions of an ideal.
