Without the moon there would still be daily tides caused by the sun and the Earth's rotation. So what's all this fuss over the moon?? I don't get it.

We are fortunate to have near perfect solar eclipses; but a even larger moon blotting out the sun would trigger wonder and "scientific" speculation.

Conclusion: much ado abut nothing!
